Feature Update: Privacy
We know how important privacy is, especially when it comes to personal events like weddings or birthdays, which you might not necessarily want to share with the world. That’s why privacy is top priority at sharypic and we have updated various features to give you ultimate control.
PUBLIC:

Edit your privacy settings via the new and improved event settings (click
in the top right corner of the event gallery). Make your event public or private, so that only people you invite can access your photos. You can also set contribution to open (all users can contribute) or closed (only you can contribute).
PRIVATE:

If you want to maximise the number of contributors to your event, allow guests to invite contributors and to share the event on social networks like Facebook and Twitter. Or, if you do not want to share, simply turn these features off to keep your event photos private.

Feature Update: Invites and Settings Page
With the new invite system and settings page on sharypic, collecting everyone’s photos after an event has never been simpler!
Easily add contributors to your event by clicking ‘share’ in the top right corner of the gallery, and select ‘Invite by email’. Type your invitees’ email address, or import them from your Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail address books. Add a personal message to encourage people to check out the event album and share their own photos.
We have reworked the settings page (accessed by clicking
in the top right corner of the gallery), so you can easily manage your invite list. You can also add or remove users and choose whether invitees can invite others to contribute, giving you ultimate control over privacy.

Why don’t you enable an automatic reminder email to be sent to your guests if they do not contribute? This will maximise your chances of getting photos from everyone!
Happy photo sharing at your event!

The Frame (part 2): Guest post from Quentin Cherrier
Quentin Cherrier is a Paris-based photographer, who does reportage and event photography. In this guest post Quentin shares his thoughts on the frame in photography.http://quentincherrier.tumblr.com/
This week we will discuss how to fill the inside of the frame. This is crucial when photographing a wedding, a birthday, a mushroom omelette or any event for which you want to create lasting memories.
You have to think about several things when photographing events. First of all, do not forget to take photos of everybody, even pets. Next, do not stand next to someone who will take the same photo as you. Take a step back or move somewhere else. With sharypic you can collect everyone’s photos at the end of the event, so you do not want many copies of the same frame.
The inside of the frame is like a game of Tic Tac Toe (see diagram). This geometric guide will help you shoot a perfect image. It is at this point that I will reveal an amazing secret. Fill the boxes with scenery and forget the human subjects. This tip will help you to balance your image, the hardest thing to do in the beginning.
- e.g. 1/3 sky, 1/3 trees, 1/3 grass
- e.g. 1/3 sand, 2/3 sea
- e.g. 1/3 mushrooms 2/3 omelette, a pinch of salt
The four points where the lines cross is where the frame is focussed, Therefore make sure at least one of these points touches your subject. After a little practice, you will not miss a single photo.
This is a photo I took at the “Rock en Seine” festival in 2012. It features 1/3 crowd 1/3 trees 1/3 sky, and both hands touch the two points where the lines cross. Next week I’ll discuss another basic rule of event photography that we have not yet covered. My parting words of wisdom: do not forget to take a step back!

Feature Update: Live PhotoWall Mosaic Display
We are excited to release a new design of the PhotoWall, which displays photos as a mosaic instead of showing only one photo at a time.

The new dynamic PhotoWall continuously evolves with new photos, and randomly expands certain photos to a larger view. The new design is highly engaging, especially on large screens, and allows for more photos to be seen at once.
We can’t wait to see the PhotoWall in action at the Golden Blog Awards on Wednesday, where we are official partners. We’ll make a short video on the night, so everyone will get to see the new design. Keep your eyes peeled!
The first two people to retweet or share this post will receive a ticket to the Awards!
Event of the Week: Vinocamp
Photo shared by @vinocamp via Instagram
Vinocamp was an event celebrating all things related to wine and technology. Over the course of two days in the mountainous Savoie region of France, E-retailers, bloggers, and industry professionals discussed wine and tech, along with visits to vineyards and of course some wine tasting. The photos make us a little bit jealous!
The organisers have won a sharypic Large Event plan to use at their next event (worth 79 euros/$99!). This means they will have access to awesome features like the live PhotoWall. Will you be our next Event of the Week? Simply post your sharypic event to our Facebook page to be in with a chance.

The Frame: Guest post from Quentin Cherrier
Quentin Cherrier is a Paris-based photographer, who does reports and event photography. In this guest post Quentin shares his thoughts on the frame in photography. http://quentincherrier.tumblr.com/The frame. The frame is not to be confused with composition. The frame is the area in which you put the object of the photograph. Before taking a photo you have to know what you want to show and hide. For example, why photograph aunt Yvette in full length when she has a magnificent mustache and deserves a close-up face shot? To draw less attention to your man’s beer belly, do not hesitate to take a step back and include some of the surroundings. The frame can be landscape (horizontal), or portrait (vertical), or diagonal (if you drink). Yet there are no absolute rules, and we can even play with framing for deliberate effect. This photo of new year’s eve on a Thai beach would work as both portrait and landscape, however I have chosen a portrait frame. The frame includes the lights in the sky, like stars. They are brilliant points in the dark, as small and fragile as this child on the beach, alone in the middle of the action. The sky reflects the number of human beings on the beach and we have this crazy impression that singular beauty can emerge from a crowd.
Event of the Week: TEDx Brighton
The Event of the Week is TEDx Brighton, a one-day conference at the Brighton Dome – Corn Exchange. The theme was “The Generation Gap” and speakers represented a range of backgrounds, interests, disciplines and perspectives. Talks challenged generational perceptions and tackled questions such as where does the generation gap lie and does it even exist?
While waiting for the videos to be uploaded to TED, check out the photos on sharypic to see a banana piano, a silhouette drawing machine, and toy hacking, amongst many other things!
Will you be our next Event of the Week and win a Large Event plan? This would mean access to awesome features such as a live photowall at your event! Simply post your sharypic event on our Facebook page to be in with a chance!

Feature Update: New Design Features
Thanks to your feedback over the past few months we have redesigned a number of features to improve user experience.
1) The new gallery layout accomodates photos of all shapes and sizes and lets them shine. Check out the before and after shots. We think it’s super, we hope you agree!
Before:

After:

2) We improved how you manage contribution invites for your attendees. You can now add auto reminders for contribution so that after an event people do not forget about sharing their photos.
3) The widget has undergone an upgrade. This means your slideshow, broadcast live from your event, is now more beautiful and functional than ever.

4) We know that privacy is important so we enhanced your privacy controls. Now you are able to allow or forbid guests to invite other people. You can also disable social media sharing (remove the share link to facebook, twitter etc.) and once an event is over you can now disable contribution for good.5) Finally, we improved the event creation form so that it is clearer and more intuitive. Give it a try and create your own event on sharypic!
We love your feedback, so keep it coming!
